We are currently connecting with faculty and staff with experience in community engaged learning who might be interested in sharing experiences, expertise, lessons learned, resources, and best practices with other RRC faculty and staff.

The CESL Team is facilitating the sustainable formation of an informal cross-college representative group of faculty and support staff from RRC Schools and departments. The network welcomes anyone involved in extending the classroom into the community for the mutual benefit of community organizations and RRC students.

The CESL Faculty Network is a learning community of RRC faculty and staff involved with organizing and coordinating learning opportunities in the community, related to their program and courses. You will collaborate with the CESL Team to communicate and disseminate information to School faculty and support staff.

College wide faculty representation is desired from the following Schools and departments:

  1. Business and Applied Arts
  2. Continuing and Distance Education
  3. Construction and Engineering Technologies
  4. Health Sciences and Community Relations
  5. Indigenous Education
  6. Transportation, Aviation & Manufacturing

Along with support staff from

  1. Student Services
  2. Language Training Centre
  3. International Education
  4. Diversity and Intercultural Services

Desired qualities and experience of the CESL Faculty Network members:

  • Has experience coordinating community learning with community partners
  • Is passionate and enthusiastic about Experiential Learning as effective teaching and learning
  • Is interested in mentoring, collaborating, and supporting other faculty
  • Is willing to be a CESL contact for their School or program to coordinate and share details
  • Is willing to share resources, best practices, lessons learned through a variety of methods
  • Has communication and collaboration skills, is perceived as a leader and team player
  • Available for 3 x 2 hour meetings - fall, winter, and spring

The primary goals for the CESL Faculty Network include:

  1. Support the CESL initiative to expand and enhance community engaged learning in RRC programs.
  2. Identify and celebrate community engaged learning projects in RRC programs.  
  3. Support and provide feedback on the development of learning outcomes and related assessments to enhance community engaged learning and the attainment of all six College Wide Learning Outcomes (CWLO).
  4. Promote Community Engagement Service Learning (CESL) to colleagues and stakeholder partners.
  5. Ensure the integration of community engaged learning into the new 2016 RRC Academic and Strategic Plans to elevate student success and strengthen strategic community partnerships.
  6. Support professional development for instructors interested in integrating CESL into their courses and programs.
  7. Ensure the activities and goals of the CESL Initiative are consistent with and complementary to other College-wide committees.

Why is this important?

The CESL Faculty Network is an integral part of the Community Engagement Service Learning (CESL) initiative through the interest in sharing experiences, expertise, lessons learned, resources, and best practices with other enthusiastic members. It will also provide valued input and feedback to the CESL Team in coordinating college-wide curriculum supports for a variety of experiential learning activities for RRC students and community partners.
